Jubilee Pool, Penzance

With the weather finally getting better in these parts, we had a look around Penzance’s iconic Art Deco Jubilee Pool, only one of five seawater lidos left in the UK. Though the water was an icy 11 degrees, a few hardy locals were swimming.

The much-publicised – and expensive – introduction of geothermal heating in 2020 (for a relatively small section of the pool) has apparently run into problems – i.e. it doesn’t work, and now is heated by expensive electric heaters, according to The Sun.

Anyway, the Grade II listed pool is still a local success story, with residents setting up a charity to raise money for repairs, as well as having the bar and cafe extended and the introduction of a community hall, whilst keeping the look of the 1930s Art Deco style intact.
