Inside Stockwell Bus Garage

Stockwell Bus Garage, author Will Self’s favourite building in London, was opened in 1952, the year after the Festival of Britain, when concrete was seen as the future. Described by the Twentieth Century Society as ‘one of the finest examples of post war modernist architecture’, the massive structure can house up to 200 buses. It was awarded Grade II* listing status in 1988.
