Top 10 jazz film scores

Miles Davis’ score to Louis Malle’s Ascenseur pour l’échafaud starring Jeanne Moreau.

For me, in general, jazz film soundtracks should be either black and white American Film Noirs or black and white French New Waves.

1. Miles Davis: Lift to the Scaffold (1958)
2. Elmer Bernstein: The Man With The Golden Arm (1956)
3. Duke Ellington: Anatomy of a Murder (1959)
4. Miles Davis: Jack Johnson (1971)
5. Bernard Herrman: Taxi Driver (1976)
6. Ornette Coleman and Howard Shore: Naked Lunch (1991)
7. Jerry Goldsmith: Chinatown (1974)
8. Martial Solal: À Bout de Souffle (1959)
9. Lalo Schifrin: Bullitt (1968)
10. Miles Davis and John Lee Hooker (the only time they ever played together): The Hot Spot (1990)

(The only Miles Davis soundtrack I haven’t included is Siesta, also pretty good.)
